On a sunny winter day, I visited Queens County Farm, which dates back to 1697 and is the oldest historical working farm in New York City (yes, there is a real farm in NYC!). The farmers were preparing to sell the next day at the Union Square Greenmarket. When I arrived, they were harvesting organic spinach and mesclun greens, cutting each leaf from the ground with a small knife. The farm, which also raises adorable sheep, goats, and chickens, is a beautiful oasis in the city and is open to visitors everyday from 10am to 5pm.
