365 spoons is a project of Nashville woodworker, Josh Nava. Set as a challenge of discipline and an exploration of technique, Josh is spending each day in 2014 hand-carving a new spoon. Starting with a log of a variety of local wood he finds or is given, he spends hours whittling and carving away the unnecessary—like a sculptor—to pull out the finished product that’s been hiding inside.
I recently spent a morning with Josh in his shop while he hand carved his 55th spoon of the year from a log from a beech tree.
