Panel Discussion — Los Angeles
Over Coffee, Session IX:
Coffee in Crisis
Life & Thyme presents Over Coffee, an ongoing talk series making sense of the world—with coffee. Each session we invite a panel of experts to discuss topics and ideas centered around food, hospitality, creativity and social issues in order to better understand the things that matter most to our community at a grassroots level.
Over 2.25 billion cups of coffee are consumed daily around the world. The coffee industry is worth over $100 billion on a global scale. And yet, coffee farmers are facing economic instability and dire consequences as a result of climate change, placing the future of coffee as we know it at stake. Combating these effects will require systemic change and consumer participation.
In conversation with Life & Thyme founder & Editor in Chief Antonio Diaz, we welcome Heather Perry, Vice President of Klatch Coffee and current president of the Specialty Coffee Association; Matt Swenson, Chief Product Officer of Chameleon Cold-Brew; Sam Sabori, Intelligentsia Coffee’s National Roasting Manager and Green Coffee Buyer; and Chris Jordan, Co-Founder of Coffee Manufactory and CEO of Tartine. Hear how each of these acclaimed organizations are working to address the coffee crisis with sustainable initiatives, and how consumers can help.
