IN-PERSON
The Migrant Kitchen: Houston Screening and Conversation
Join us for a special screening of the new season of Life & Thyme’s Emmy Award winning series, The Migrant Kitchen, in Houston.
The fourth episode of the new season of The Migrant Kitchen, “Houston”, will be screened. The episode explores how soul food has long been a polarizing stereotype, limiting conversation about the resiliency of the Black identity. But in Houston, Texas, chefs Chris Williams of the renowned Lucille’s and Jonny Rhodes of Indigo are on a mission to empower the Black community of Texas through entrepreneurialism, while fighting agricultural oppression and uplifting African American foodways.
There will be a discussion following the screening with the cast and crew of The Migrant Kitchen.
The Migrant Kitchen is an Emmy®-winning documentary series that explores America’s booming food scene through the eyes of a new generation of chefs whose cuisine is inspired by the immigrant experience. Visit the kitchens of those who have transformed the culinary landscape of this country, combining traditional ethnic cuisines and a fusion of new flavors and techniques that have been shaped through immigrant foodways. The Migrant Kitchen is produced by Life & Thyme and KCET / PBS SoCal.
